Cruising has changed a lot over the past several years and now ships are being built with some incredible adventure and entertainment options. In this post, we are going to explore the top 10 experience you've got to try when you cruise.
10: The Racetrack on Norwegian Cruise Line. There are several different ships that have race tracks and we found it to be an awesome experience. It might not be the one thing that you do over and over again, but it absolutely is worth checking out. Per turn you get about 10 laps on the race track. You get all geared up and a helmet and you are only allowed to go a certain speed so overall it is pretty safe (and if you intentionally crash with other racers, they will remove you from the track.) On NCL, it costs an extra $15 per person to ride, so it's not included in your cruise fare, but definitely worth doing at least once.
9. Ropes Course. Any ship you can try a ropes course on, definitely do it! NCL had a great course that we went on and we know that several other cruise lines do this as well. Most of them have a little plank where you can walk out over the side of the ship for some incredible views. There will be zip lines on them or obstacles where you have to climb over things, etc. This is definitely something to try that will make your cruise a bit more memorable.
8. The North Star on any Royal Caribbean class ship. This will take you a few hundred feet up above sea level and you will see the most beautiful panoramic views of the ocean. If you're at port, you'll get an amazing sight of the place you are visiting and the surrounding area. Do do this there are windows of time where it is offered for free and then there are paid time options as well. This is definitely an experience you will remember for a long time.
7. iFly Ripcord. This is indoor skydiving tunnel and it's really cool. Now, depending on how you're feeling physically, it may be fun to do yourself or to just go watch (the people who work there can do some amazing tricks in the tunnel.) Either way, it is definitely an experience you'll want to check out.
6. Chefs Table. We talk about this all the time on the blog and it absolutely is one of our favorite experiences on any cruise. This is an especially fun thing to do if you are celebrating something like an anniversary or a birthday. It is a very slow, enjoyable and amazing meal with wine pairing and is something you will remember for years to come. This is also one of the more exclusive experiences, at 10 to 14 people max per table. You get to meet the chef and all the different people behind the scenes making your food.
5. The Bolt Rollercoaster on Carnival. This is a rollercoaster. On a cruise ship. Need we say anything else? Now, it's not the craziest coaster in the world, but it's on a cruise ship. When you go on this ride, you'll get three times around the track per turn, along with some absolutely amazing views.
4. Zipline. This is on the Oasis class ships and it is awesome. You zipline right across the middle opening of the ship and it's a lot of fun to both do and watch others. It's not too challenging on the body and it's definitely a memorable experience.
3. The Ultimate Abyss Dry Slide. We've done this slide on a handful of ships and multiple cruise lines now are including this experience. It's a ton of fun, and you don't need to be in a bathing suit. This is essentially a slide for teenagers and young adults with colored lights throughout for a really unique thrill.
2. Specialty Dining. Any kind of specialty dinner always adds to the unique and memorable experiences you have on a ship. Whether you are celebrating something or not, we highly recommend you treat yourself to at least one specialty meal.
1. Go to a LIVE Game Show! This is SO much fun and it is done on a bunch of different cruise ships. Whether it's Family Feud or The Price is Right or another game, and every time our team has had a blast.
