Recently we were on the NCL Breakaway and we had a blast! Here is our list of the TOP 10 things we think you must try when you are on the Breakaway.
1. ROPES COURSE. This is on the top deck and is a ton of fun to either watch or do. Now, it will be closed if the weather is bad, so on a nice day go up and check it out. This course is a bit challenging but mostly just fun. You're going to wind in and out of some different things and there is a zip line element you can try. At one point you have the option to walk all the way out to the edge of the ship and look over the side (don't worry, you've got a harness on!) All in all, this is a really fun activity and we highly recommend it.
2. RUMORS SHOW. Go catch this show at Syd Normans Porthouse! Here's the deal: there isn't a lot going on at night on Breakaway, so for a show like this you're going to want to get there early to make sure you have a seat. They do the Rumors Fleetwood Mac album back to back during this show and also add little stories about each song throughout. The performance is amazing and it is absolutely worth seeing (we believe it's the best show on the ship!)
3. HOWL AT THE MOON. Go see this show! This is the dueling pianos show that happens in the comedy club on deck 6. They do perform 3 or 4 nights during the cruise so you'll have several chances to catch this one. This show is late; it usually starts around 9:30 pm and goes until about 1 am, so for all you night owls, this is the place to be.
4. THEME PARTIES. While you are on board there are a TON of different theme parties. There's 70's, 80's, Abba and more. We definitely recommend going up to the 80's party, which will be up on one of the top decks outside at night. The 80's has a ton of memorable music that makes this party super fun. Definitely check it out!
5. THE LOCAL. You can head over to the Local at any time during your cruise, although in our opinion, the best time to go is late at night. It is the British-style pub onboard and the food here is delicious AND it's included in your cruise fare! The late-night snacks here are great and it's a wonderful way to round out your day on a cruise, especially after you've seen a show or spent the day wandering around port. The Local is open 24 hours.
6. DINNER AND A SHOW at the Manhattan Room. The Manhattan Room is one of the main dining rooms that is included in your cruise fare. Here, they do a 20-minute snippet of the headliner show on the cruise and it's really fun to sit, eat, and enjoy. The ambiance of the Manhattan room is really nice - like a fancy old-school supper club - and this is a great way to dine differently without spending any extra cash.
7. SHANHAI'S NOODLE BAR. Check this place out! But get there early as it fills up fast. This restaurant is on deck 7 right by the Casino and Bar 21. It's a pretty small restaurant so you'll want to get there before the dinner rush. This is a dim sum noodle bar and they've got tons of different options there for noodle dishes and it is included in your cruise fare.
8. Go to TEPPANYAKI. Now this one will cost you extra, but it is 100% worth it! This is the Hibachi restaurant on board and one of our favorite specialty dining restaurants. This place is a ton of fun and there are a lot of performance aspects about eating here. We highly recommend that if you are going to spend extra money on a specialty dining restaurant you check this place out.
9. SPEED TRIVIA. Try this or Crowd Trivia out in the Atrium. These are both fun games centered around trivia. In Speed Trivia, one person is called to play at the front whereas in Crowd Trivia each team in the crowd gets a buzzer to play.
10. SPICE H2O. Last but not least, spend a quiet afternoon or evening at Spice H2O. Spice H2O is up on the top deck and is adults only during the day. They've got a HUGE projector screen up there, a waterfall and wading area, a bar, and just generally a wonderful space to relax and chill. It's definitely worth checking out for some peace and quiet on your next cruise.
