10 Things You Should Never Bring On A Cruise

Welcome to Byte Size Cruises! We are so glad you're here. We are a travel agency out of Philadelphia, PA and we specialize in ALL things cruising. If you enjoy cruise vacations or if you are interested in learning more about cruises, subscribe and come on the journey! Our goal here is to share the best and most up to date information about the industry so you can plan and go on an amazing cruise vacation (and hopefully fall in love with cruising like we did!) Today we are going to cover 10 things you should NEVER pack or bring on a cruise. If you want to check out this post on our YouTube channel, click here. Let's get into it!

1. Weapons of ANY kind. This one might seem obvious but it's worth repeating. NEVER bring any kind of weapon on a cruise! This includes firearms, knives, brass knuckles, etc. Anything that could be considered a weapon should not be brought on your cruise. If you pack any of these things, they will most likely deny you entry to the ship and you will not be able to go on your cruise. Worst case scenario, you could be banned for life from that cruise line or all cruise lines (yes, that can happen!) Don't risk it. If it could be a weapon, don't pack it. This might include tactical pens, pocket knives, box cutters, etc.

2. Sources of Fire. The number one threat to cruise ships at sea is fire. You are not allowed to bring candles, incense, or anything that is for the purpose of burning. There are certain places on the ship where you are allowed to smoke cigarettes and cigars, but other than that, NO sources of fire allowed. Don't bring big lighters, no big matches.

3. Unmanned Arial Vehicles. Leave your drones at home! We know the footage would be cool and we know you've seen video of this before, but you are not allowed to bring them on board.

4. Household Appliances. Leave your washing machines and dish washers at home! No clothes irons, electric kettles, curling irons etc.

5. Expensive Jewelry. Now, this isn't a rule, but we highly recommend you leave your diamonds and jewels at home. We know it's vacation and you want to wear nice things, but between the salt water, pools, sand and travel it's WAY too easy for expensive watches and necklaces to slip off or be stolen. These things also can make you a mark in foreign countries and identify you as a tourist, which is not something you want. Be careful, be safe, and leave your valuables at home.

6. No Restraining Devices. Most people wouldn't think of this one - or necessarily pack these types of items, but here we go... You're not allowed any restraining items on cruise ships, such as hand cuffs. If you own them, leave them at home.

7. No self-defense sprays. Don't bring pepper spray or bear spray (Alaska travelers, that one is for you!)

8. No Illicit Drugs. This one might be self explanatory but it bears repeating. NO illicit drugs (this includes CBD, mushrooms, etc.)! If you try to bring these things onto the ship you will be banned from the cruise. You are allowed to bring prescription drugs but they MUST be in the prescription bottles.

9. Extension Cords or Surge Suppressors. Don't bring any kind of extension cords or surge suppressors. There ARE travel approved outlet extenders that are approved and allowed. If you need an extension cord for a medical device such as a CPAP machine make sure to get it cleared with the cruise line ahead of time (your travel agent can help you with this.)

10. Pool Toys or Towels. Don't bring them! They are not allowed and the cruise line will provide all towels for your cruise (even at ports) so leave your beach towels at home.

Those are our TOP 10 things to NEVER bring on a cruise! Would you add anything to our list? What are your thoughts? We would love to hear from you! Comment below.
